A Meteoric Blue

It was as if we had appeared in
One another’s life out of the blue
Like meteors
That keep defying the laws of science
Built painstakingly over the centuries,
If not over millennia.
Unlike the heavenly meteors meeting fiery ends
When they come together,
At least I had a sense of great peace
A sense of glimpsing the never-never
A sense of infinite choices
Within an unexplored finiteness.

The dreamlike moments were like a Wordsworthian paradox
In which the Yarrow remained
Unvisited within a guided tour of the valley
Irrigated by the contained calm flow of an
Unfulfilled absurd promise of blissful here and now.

Perhaps that was all for the best
In a world where the twain still
Meet only on either side of an apparent bottomless gorge
Where they reach out and sometimes even fingers touch fingers,
And then each one moves out in a
Different trajectory to be with the familiar
That in reality is often as unfamiliar as the
Most distant star at the other end of the Milky Way.
