“Born in an orthodox family in one of the northern districts of Kerala, with a communist background, I was always proud of Grassway about which I started hearing from my early days. My father was an ardent communist, sad to say, he is no more, was a staunch follower of the communist idea and also its vanguard leaders like A.K.G., E.M.S., Rajeswara Rao, Sunderayya, P. Krishna Pillai and several other leaders. The list is endless and hence I don’t dare to name them one by one. He was an ardent admirer of Comrade A.K.G., whom he saw as his role model till his death. A.K.G. always fought for the downtrodden and underwent ruthless assaults and long terms of imprisonment. Whenever he talked about his role model, he talked with one thousand tongues, breathlessly, with a kind of divine devotion. A huge portrait of A.K.G. is still maintained on the white wall of my house, the portrait of a smiling, inspiring firebrand revolutionary. Unfortunately the split in the great Communist Party of India filled him with despair and sorrow, he slowly and hesitatingly withdrew from the front to the inner recess of our home.”
