Sacred Starkness
It was life surging through her.
She grazed, contented –
Her gaze on the gratifying green.
In a proximity that hurt
Was the cage of bones?
“Sans teeth, sans taste, sans eyes,
Sans everything.”
The spread was green,
With little yellow mustard toppings.
Was it the endless moments,
Or the few yards,
That stood
Between the two visages?
The green was there
For the grazing white form,
And a white,
In the stark, bony emptiness.
