Senility

It’s not just writing names on walls
For everything passes out of sight into night-space
The hollow-breath; a whistle only
Into feverish times
Melts like printed letters on an empty page.

Incidents are but dents in memory
Pushing into moments of fluid stretch
Along coastal shores at night
When age sits and broods at cross roads;
When expected night-shrieks of birds
Wake up the putrid scent of flesh
Borne along waste of city lights in gathering dusk
The rolling tin cans discarded on dusty side-walks
Whisper what remains of cluttered words
Dropped ages ago or retracing footsteps
Fading into chaos in front; and the rest –
Just an empty space.
