Ketaki Kushari Dyson, 26 June 1940 – 12 September 2026

We regret the passing of Ketaki Kushari Dyson (1940-2026), one of our authors, who studied in Kolkata and then settled in England. A respected scholar and translator of Tagore, she also wrote original works in Bengali and English. Contrary to the report printed in The Telegraph (Kolkata), that her first book of English poems appeared in Oxford in 1979, she, like many Indian poets in English, entrusted Writers Workshop with her debut collection, Sap-Wood, published in 1978. We also brought out two volumes of her English translations of the Bengali poet Kabirul Islam (Poems, 1979 and The Home-Coming, 1982).
