Our 19-Volume Mahabharata Completed

We are happy to announce that our 19-volume Mahabharata project is now completed, close to 13 years after Professor P. Lal passed away. Jayanta Mahapatra (1928-2023)

We are saddened by the demise of the acclaimed Jayanta Mahapatra on August 27. He was the first poet to win the Sahitya Akademi award in English (1981). His contributions to Indian literature were also recognized with the Padma Shri (2009), though he felt compelled to return it in 2015 to protest “rising intolerance in India”. ‘When the Flowers Begin to Speak’ Wins WE Award

Temsula Ao ~ 25 October 1945 – 9 October 2022

Writers Workshop mourns the passing of Temsula Ao. Born in present-day Assam in 1945, she belonged to the Ao Naga community. She was Professor of English at North Eastern Hill University, from where she retired in 2010. Ao wrote poetry, fiction and nonfiction and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2007.
