Mother like Autumn

I wonder what my mother does
Without me –
How she draws water from words
In her tepid loneliness;
If she glistens like an abandoned knife
Under the sun;
If she follows the trail of an ivy.
I wonder what she does
After waking up at the bottom
Of my dream –
How she folds the creases
Of its uproar;
If she hands me the sourness
Of a ripe berry;
If she leaves behind a piece
Of her soul.
