Or So the Pain Said

Once,
Someone said
To an impoverished,
Unhappy
Little girl
Who seemed
Bent upon
On crying:
“You must see
The pain
And suffering
In this world
And then you’ll really cry.”
And so
The little girl said, instantly
“Get me a mirror
And I’ll see it for myself.”
