About the Book:
This is an anthology of English translations of modern Assamese poetry since 1950 and features poems by Hem Barua, Nalinidhar Bhattacharya, Naba Kanta Barua, Keshab Mahanta, Ajit Barua, Hari Borkakoty, Hiren Bhattacharya, Nirmalprova Bordoloi, Nilmoni Phukan, Bireswar Barua, Hirendra Nath Dutta, Rabindra Sarkar, Meera Thakur, Harekrishna Deka, Kabin Phukan, Anees Uz Zaman, Sananta Tanti, Karabi Deka Hazarika, Manjit Singh, Sameer Tanti, Koustuvmoni Saikia, Uday Kumar Sarma, Prayag Saikia and Anupam Kumar.
Professor Borooah has sought to make this collection as representative as possible of Assamese poetry, working within the challenges of translating where some exceptional poems, inevitably, do not lend themselves well to translation. This book painstakingly exhibits the themes, concerns, politics and styles that have informed the works of modern Assamese poets.
