About the Author
Born in 1941, Dr. Prashar began his professional career as a geologist with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) in 1965. He received a Ph.D. in 1985 for his research on a potential limestone belt in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. His interests include creative writing, trekking, painting, music and photography. He lives with his wife in Kullu and has two sons. This is his first book of poetry.

A sage in the Himalaya
Since hoary past,
Seated in its quiet abode
Up on the high mountains,
Deep in meditation
Set about shedding its body weight
Melting its frame.
Drop by drop,
It let go of its form
Till it got itself liberated,
Into the melt of oceanic consciousness
Leaving behind on the dreary
Terrain of bare Mountains
The gross, the remains —
The skeletal heaps of gravels,
The mounds of moraines.
