The Dark and Me

I was searching for the dark when I met St. John of the Cross. We shared the night together — he and me — looking for the dark. I always feared the dark. I hated the dark. There is something tremendously severe about her that men do not understand. But the severity is only a mask on the face of the dark. I must blame my eyes for the mistaken feelings regarding the dark. My eyes would like to bask in the things of light. In short, they’re examining the world, these eyes of mine. The dark does not take away the power of my eyes to visualize. The dark becomes me. She is one with the being of my being. She prevents me from judging others. Her fluidity is her only statement. I am a child of the dark. We are all children of the dark. Yet we want to avoid her with all our might. It is her we’re running away from. We’re terrified of her power, genius, madness and ecstasy. Our hands can never take her. She is elusive like a black serpent in a coal-mine.
